Dr. Susan Rashid (soft, luminous tone):
Welcome to Moondust Noir, the podcast where moonlight becomes memory, and cosmic cycles meet sacred ritual.
I’m your host, Dr. Susan Rashid, and tonight, we stand beneath the radiant glow of the April Full Moon—a moon so soft in name, so profound in timing, so synchronistic in meaning.
Tonight’s episode is a story of three sacred echoes:
The Pink Moon, the Passover, and Palm Sunday—
A moment when the natural, the historical, and the divine align across land and lineage.
Let us begin with the moon itself.
[Background: Woodland drums, soft flute, water flowing]
The Pink Moon is the name given to the full moon that rises each April in the Northern Hemisphere. Contrary to popular belief, it does not appear pink in the sky. The name comes from the first wildflower to bloom after winter: moss pink, or Phlox subulata—a small, vibrant pink groundcover native to eastern North America.
But to truly understand the Pink Moon, we must return to the ancient keepers of the lunar calendar—the Indigenous peoples of North America.
For the Algonquin, Ojibwe, Dakota, and Cherokee nations, each moon held a name, a purpose, and a story.
April’s moon marked the return of fertility, warmth, and light. It was called:
The Pink Moon was not merely about color. It was a signal:
That the earth was coming alive again.
That it was time to plant, to hunt, to gather, to give thanks.
It was a sacred pulse, tuned to the breath of the land.
Many Native cultures used 13 moon cycles to mark a spiritual calendar, each moon guiding medicine, ceremony, migration, and reflection.
The April moon was considered especially sacred for its reminder that death is never final—there is always return.
And in that belief… we find remarkable harmony with two other traditions.
[Background: Ancient string music, soft echoes of Hebrew chanting]
The Jewish festival of Passover, or Pesach, always begins on the night of a full moon—the 15th of Nisan, in the Hebrew calendar.
Like Indigenous traditions, the Jewish calendar is lunar-based.
The moon dictates sacred time.
Passover commemorates the Israelites’ escape from slavery in ancient Egypt.
It is a story of oppression… and miraculous freedom.
Of plagues, divine intervention, and a hurried midnight flight into the unknown.
On that night, as scripture tells us, the moon shone high over Egypt.
Its silver light touched doorposts marked with lamb’s blood.
The Angel of Death passed over those homes—and so the moon became not just a backdrop, but a silent witness to deliverance.
To this day, Jewish families around the world gather at their Seder table during the full moon, telling the story through wine, bitter herbs, and unleavened bread—each bite echoing exile, and each word affirming hope.
This April moon is thus not just pink with bloom—but red with memory, and silver with liberation.
[Background: Chanting choirs, footsteps on dry stone, rustling palms in wind]
In Christian tradition, Palm Sunday occurs one week before Easter.
It marks Jesus’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, when crowds hailed him with palm branches, believing he was the long-awaited Messiah.
The timing of Palm Sunday is rooted in lunar cycles as well.
The date of Easter is always determined by the Paschal Moon—the first full moon following the spring equinox.
From that moon, the Church counts backward to find Palm Sunday.
Thus, Jesus entered Jerusalem beneath a rising moon—a moon that would soon witness his final days, his agony, his betrayal, his crucifixion… and, ultimately, his resurrection.
In places like Seville, Jerusalem, and the Philippines, Palm Sunday is celebrated with fervent processions, sacred music, and moonlit vigils.
The moon in Holy Week becomes a symbol of witness, of grief, and of transcendence.
[Background: Ambient hum, echo of distant voices, slow rhythm of heartbeats]
What makes this April moon so spiritually charged is the way it synchronizes three very different yet remarkably parallel traditions:
Each tradition marks a journey:
Across the desert.
Into the city.
Through the thawing of the land.
Each speaks of faith, awakening, and the eternal cycle of death and rebirth.
The moon unites them—not just as a timekeeper, but as a mirror.
In its glow, we see our ancestors’ stories, our seasonal rhythms, and our soul’s deepest longings.
[Background: Faint wave sounds, blooming harp music, final heartbeat fading]
So tonight, as the Pink Moon rises over oceans and cities, forests and synagogues, churches and quiet gardens—
Pause.
Look up.
You are witnessing something rare and ancient.
A moon whose name comes from a flower,
Whose light carried an enslaved people to freedom,
Whose timing opened the gates of Jerusalem.
Let this moon remind you that nature, spirit, and story are never separate.
That full moons are not just moments… but mirrors.
From the blooming moss of the forest floor, to the palm-laden roads of faith,
From the whispered names in sacred Hebrew to the hush of a Native song…
This moon holds all of it.
And it holds you.
Thank you for joining me tonight on Moondust Noir.
May the moon guide you home.
